Police have intensified investigations into the fatal attack on Sports Club Villa captain Owor David, popularly known as “Colgate,” after he was assaulted by unknown assailants in Makindye Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the 28-year-old was attacked on the night of August 4, 2026, while walking along Nalinya–Mpologoma Road in Dubai Zone, Makindye II Parish. The exact circumstances surrounding the assault remain unclear.
Investigators say the footballer was later found unconscious by passers-by, who rushed him to Sir Albert Cook Hospital for emergency treatment. He was subsequently referred to Case Hospital at about 2:00 a.m. for specialized care, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have since documented and processed the crime scene as detectives work to reconstruct the events leading to the attack and identify those responsible.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said investigators are pursuing all available leads to establish both the motive and the identities of the attackers.
“The scene of the incident has been documented and processed to ensure that all relevant evidence is collected and preserved. Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible,” Kawala said in a statement.
No arrests had been announced by Wednesday evening.
The incident has drawn significant public attention given Owor’s prominence in Ugandan football, with investigators expected to review witness accounts and other forensic evidence gathered from the scene.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station as efforts continue to trace those behind the attack.
