Entebbe Airport Passenger Traffic Rises to 156,342 in July, but Remains Below 2025 Levels

Passenger traffic through Entebbe International Airport increased sharply in July 2026, with the country’s main gateway handling 156,342 international passengers during the month, up by 25,096 from June.

Airport statistics show that 86,586 passengers arrived in Uganda in July, while 69,756 departed, giving a combined monthly traffic of 156,342 international passengers. This translates into an average of about 5,043 arriving and departing passengers each day.

The July performance represents a significant improvement from June, when Entebbe recorded 131,246 international passengers—67,601 arrivals and 63,645 departures.

The increase of 25,096 passengers between June and July comes during a period traditionally associated with stronger international travel, as passenger movements typically rise between June and August.

However, despite the month-on-month recovery, Entebbe’s international passenger traffic remains substantially below the levels recorded a year earlier.

July 2026 recorded 70,667 fewer international arrivals and departures than July 2025, pointing to a sizeable year-on-year contraction in passenger traffic.

The decline was also evident in June. Passenger movements in June 2026 were 70,514 below the corresponding figure for June 2025.

The figures suggest that while Entebbe is experiencing a seasonal rebound, the airport has yet to return to the passenger volumes recorded during the same period last year.

Cargo traffic strengthens

Cargo activity, meanwhile, recorded a notable increase in July.

Entebbe International Airport handled 4,799 metric tonnes of cargo during the month, comprising 3,123 metric tonnes of exports and 1,676 metric tonnes of imports.

This was an increase from the 4,140 metric tonnes handled in June, representing an additional 659 metric tonnes in monthly cargo throughput.

Exports accounted for the larger share of July’s cargo traffic, at more than 3,100 metric tonnes, reflecting Uganda’s continued reliance on air transport for high-value and time-sensitive export commodities.

The July figures therefore present a mixed picture for Uganda’s aviation sector: passenger traffic is recovering from the June low, while cargo volumes have also strengthened, but international passenger numbers remain considerably below those recorded in 2025.

The performance will be closely watched as Uganda’s aviation and tourism sectors seek to expand international connectivity and attract more visitors, business travellers and air cargo through Entebbe.
