The Uganda National Oil Company () has officially handed over a UGX 10.3 billion contract to National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) Construction, Works and Engineering Ltd for the opening of 86 kilometres of roads within the Kabalega Industrial Park (KIP), marking another milestone in the development of Uganda’s oil and gas infrastructure.
The road project is expected to provide critical access across the industrial park, easing the movement of investors, contractors and security agencies while laying the groundwork for future industrial, commercial and residential developments.
Kabalega Industrial Park is a key component of Uganda’s oil and gas value chain and is being developed to host petroleum-related industries, logistics facilities and supporting businesses that will serve the country’s emerging energy sector.
Speaking during the contract handover, UNOC Chief Executive Officer Proscovia Nabbanja called on both the project implementation and supervision teams to prioritise quality, safety and accountability throughout the execution of the works.
She said the road network is essential to unlocking the park’s full investment potential and ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with the growing demand for industrial development.
“Quality, safety and accountability must remain at the centre of project implementation to ensure the infrastructure delivers long-term value for the country,” Nabbanja said.
National Enterprise Corporation Managing Director Hon. Lt. Gen. James Mugira said NEC was prepared to mobilise immediately and execute the project within the required standards.
He described the contract as another demonstration of Uganda’s commitment to promoting local content while strengthening national capacity to deliver strategic infrastructure projects.
“The project reflects growing confidence in local firms to undertake major national assignments and contributes to the country’s broader industrialisation agenda,” Mugira said.
The new roads are expected to improve connectivity within the industrial park, facilitate the movement of construction equipment and personnel, enhance security operations and create a conducive environment for investors expected to establish operations in the area.
The contract comes as Uganda continues to invest in enabling infrastructure to support first oil production and position the country’s petroleum sector as a catalyst for wider economic transformation, job creation and industrial growth.
