Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has praised Nile Breweries Limited for its contribution to Uganda’s economy through tax payments, local manufacturing, agricultural sourcing and employment, as Government seeks deeper private-sector investment to expand production and economic activity.
Finance Minister Henry Musasizi has commended Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) for its contribution to Uganda’s economic growth, highlighting the company’s role in domestic manufacturing, tax mobilisation, agricultural sourcing and job creation.

Musasizi made the remarks during an engagement with a Nile Breweries delegation led by Board Director Olive Birungi Lumonya, where he reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with private-sector manufacturers.
The Minister said a strong and expanding private sector is critical to supporting Government’s development programmes, particularly through increased production, investment, employment and domestic revenue generation.
He pledged continued engagement with Nile Breweries and other manufacturers to address challenges affecting business growth and create conditions that enable companies to expand their operations.
Local manufacturing and agricultural value chains
Nile Breweries is among Uganda’s major manufacturing investors and has built a supply chain linking farmers and other local businesses to its production and distribution operations.
Through its local sourcing model, the company provides farmers with markets for agricultural produce, supporting rural incomes while contributing to the commercialisation of agriculture.
The model also extends economic activity beyond the factory, connecting agricultural producers with manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and consumers.
Nile Breweries supports approximately 600 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs, alongside additional employment generated across its wider value chain.
Private sector remains central to industrialisation
Musasizi’s engagement with the brewer comes as Uganda continues to seek greater private-sector participation in industrialisation, value addition and employment creation.
For Government, manufacturers provide more than finished products. Their operations can generate tax revenue, create markets for agricultural produce, develop supply chains and stimulate activity across multiple sectors of the economy.
The partnership between Government and manufacturers therefore remains important to efforts to broaden Uganda’s productive base and increase domestic economic activity.
NBL calls for continued Government partnership
Birungi welcomed the continued collaboration between Government and the private sector, describing it as important for strengthening Uganda’s industrial base, promoting agricultural commercialisation and expanding employment opportunities.
The engagement underscores the growing importance of cooperation between policymakers and manufacturers as Uganda seeks to move further toward a productive economy driven by investment, value addition and stronger domestic supply chains.
With manufacturers such as Nile Breweries operating across agriculture, production, distribution and retail, the economic impact of industrial investment extends well beyond the factory floor—creating a chain of economic opportunities from farmers and suppliers to manufacturers, distributors and consumers.
