Electoral Commission Sets September 3–4 for National Women’s Committee Elections

The Electoral Commission has scheduled September 3 and 4, 2026 for the election of Uganda’s National Women’s Executive Committee, marking the final stage in the formation of Women’s Councils and Committees from the village to the national level.

According to a statement issued by Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the National Conference for the election will be held at Kyambogo College School in Nakawa Division, Kampala Capital City.

The electoral college will comprise 147 delegates, including chairpersons of City and District Women’s Councils and one woman with a disability nominated by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

The 146 City and District Women’s Council chairpersons will form the bulk of the electorate, while the additional representative will ensure participation of a woman with a disability in the national electoral process.

The delegates are expected to convene at Kyambogo College School on Thursday, September 3, with accreditation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Candidate nominations will follow at 2:00 p.m.

Four positions will be contested at the national level: Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Publicity Secretary and Secretary for Finance.

Eligible delegates seeking to contest for any of the positions can obtain nomination forms from the Office of the Returning Officer for Kampala Capital City in Ministers Village, Ntinda, Nakawa.

Campaigns for the nominated candidates will be held on Friday, September 4, beginning at 8:00 a.m., before voting starts at noon.

The Commission said voting will be conducted by secret ballot, with all delegates and aspiring candidates required to follow the stipulated dates, times and electoral procedures.

The election concludes the Electoral Commission’s programme for composing Women’s Councils and Committees across the country, culminating in the selection of the national executive leadership.
