Ugandan musician and radio presenter Derrick Ddungu, popularly known as Rickman Manrick, is making a return to competitive football after several years in the entertainment industry.
Rickman has signed for Express FC ahead of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season, joining the Red Eagles as they continue to rebuild their squad for the new campaign.
The club announced the forward among three new signings on Friday, alongside goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya and defender Shafik Batambuze.
Rickman, who began his career in football, stepped away from the sport after a knee injury disrupted his stint in Sweden. He subsequently turned his attention to music, where he released several songs, before taking up a career in radio as a presenter at 106.5 NRG Radio.
His return to football marks a new chapter for the entertainer, who now joins an Express side looking to blend experience with fresh additions ahead of the new season.
Kigonya brings international experience from spells in Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe, while Batambuze has played in Kenya and Tanzania.
Express is also seeking to reunite with some of its former players. Midfielder Isaac Wagoina has already returned to the club after spending two seasons at BUL FC.
There are also reports that Alpha Thierry Ssali could make a return to Express from KCCA, where he has struggled to secure regular playing time.
The 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on August 28, 2026, with Express hoping its revamped squad can deliver a stronger campaign.
