The Uganda Police Force and the Leadership Code Tribunal have held talks on strengthening institutional cooperation to promote transparency, accountability and professional ethics within the public service.
The discussions took place on Saturday at Police Headquarters in Naguru, where Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba hosted a delegation from the Leadership Code Tribunal led by its Chairperson, Dr Roselyn Karugonjo Segawa.
The engagement focused on identifying areas of mutual cooperation to strengthen institutional integrity, promote ethical conduct and improve public service delivery.
Byakagaba acknowledged the Tribunal’s role in enforcing the Leadership Code of Conduct, which provides a framework for promoting integrity and accountability among public officers.
“As the Uganda Police Force, we recognise and appreciate the vital role the Leadership Code Tribunal plays in enforcing the Leadership Code of Conduct,” Byakagaba said.
The meeting also explored strategic areas of mutual interest, with both institutions emphasising the importance of collaboration in advancing accountability and strengthening public confidence in government institutions.
The engagement comes amid broader efforts to reinforce ethical standards, transparency and accountability across Uganda’s public institutions.
The Leadership Code Tribunal is mandated to enforce the Leadership Code of Conduct, which sets ethical standards for leaders and public officers, including requirements relating to declarations of income, assets and liabilities.
Stronger cooperation between enforcement and oversight institutions is intended to support the promotion of integrity and responsible conduct in public service.
